Location information

Surf spot name: Tanjung Aan Reef

Geographical location: Tanjung Aan Beach is located in south Lombok, about a 15 minute drive from Kuta Lombok where many tourists stay.

This is a long and beautiful white-sand beach that is surrounded by nature. It’s a relatively calm and quiet beach, with a couple of different surf spots. The surf spot suitable for beginners is the spot in the middle of the bay which has a long A-frame wave. It’s quite far out, so to get there you need to take a boat taxi.

What you need to know

General spot information

Ability level

Works well for beginners and intermediates when the conditions are not too big. Although I don't recommend this spot to a complete beginner due to the reef bottom. Instead, try a sand bottom break, like Selong Belanak Beach.

Crowd factor

Moderate. Less crowded than nearby beginner surf spots Selong Belanak Beach and Gerupuk Bay.

Water temperature

Ranges from 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F) – a wetsuit is not needed, but I recommend that you wear a rashguard to protect yourself from getting rashes and irritated skin from the board if you surf on a foam board.
