Berawa Beach

A beginner's guide - bali

Berawa Beach surf spot guide for beginners

Brief spot overview: Compared to its neighbouring beach, Batu Bolong, Berawa Beach surf spot is a less crowded spot that can be suitable for beginners in the right conditions. Beginners can stay in the front where there’s sand bottom, in a spot called “The Peak”. Do not surf in “The Ledge” or “The Bombie” spots as a beginner, as these spots are better suited for intermediates.

What you’ll learn in this guide: This Berawa surf spot guide covers key spot info, wave characteristics, and the best surf conditions to help you time your sessions.

The best surf height

Opt for 1-3 feet in face height (0,3-1 meters) if you're a beginner. If you surf whitewater the right surf height is less important, as long as the swell is not too strong

The best tide condition

Sinking tide, from mid to low, is best. However, all tides work.

What to do in Berawa besides surfing

1. Beach clubs: Visit popular spots like FINNS Beach Club for a lively atmosphere, pools, and beachfront views. FINNS Beach Club also turns into a nightclub at night.

2. Shopping: Browse Berawa’s boutique shops for unique fashion, beachwear, and souvenirs.

3. FINNS Recreation Club: Head to FINNS Recreation Club for family-friendly activities like a water park and bowling.

4. Yoga and fitness: Join yoga or fitness classes at nearby studios for a workout.

5. Dining: Explore beachfront cafés and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. While not located directly on the beach, my personal favourite restaurant in all of Bali is located in Berawa and is called Sababa. I visited this restaurant four times during my 3-week stay in the Berawa area, so for obvious reasons I highly recommend it!

6. Sunset watching: Relax on the beach and enjoy the stunning sunset views.
