A beginner's guide - Bali
Brief spot overview: Kuta Beach is one of Bali’s most popular surf spots. This surf spot has a forgiving sand bottom, making it ideal for beginner surfers who are still getting comfortable with catching waves and want a safer environment to practice.
What you’ll learn in this guide: In this Kuta Beach surf spot guide you’ll learn some general spot information, the wave characteristics of the spot, and what the best surf conditions are here, so that you can time your surf sessions just right.
The area
Surf spot name: Kuta Beach
Geographical location: Kuta Beach surf spot is centrally located in Kuta, Bali. Kuta is a bustling area known for its vibrant nightlife, shopping, and dining options.
If you’re arriving by car or bike, you can get off at “Pintu Beachwalk Pantai Kuta,” near the Beachwalk shopping center. From there, I suggest taking a 10-minute walk north along the beach towards Legian and Seminyak. The further north you go, the less crowded the beach becomes, and you’ll often find the waves breaking farther from the shore- offering a more enjoyable surfing experience in my opinion.
What you need to know
Kuta Beach surf spot is suitable for beginners to intermediate surfers, with consistent, manageable waves ideal for learning and improving skills.
Kuta Beach surf spot is often crowded, especially during peak season, but there are less busy spots further north along the beach.
Ranges from 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F) – a wetsuit is not needed but I personally prefer wearing a spring suit.
