Good areas to stay in Cape Town for beginner surfers

As someone who has experienced different parts of Cape Town firsthand, I have some insights on good areas to stay in Caoe Town for beginner surfers. While Muizenberg and Bloubergstrand are renowned for their excellent surf schools and beginner-friendly waves, there are other areas you might want to consider for a more well-rounded experience.

Muizenberg

Muizenberg is undoubtedly a great spot for beginner surfers. The long, gentle waves and abundance of surf schools make it an ideal place to learn and practice surfing. The beach has a vibrant, laid-back vibe with colorful beach huts and a strong surf culture. However, it can get quite windy, and the area is somewhat removed from the main attractions of Cape Town.

Bloubergstrand

Big Bay Beach in Bloubergstrand is another good option for beginner surfers, known for its beautiful views of Table Mountain and consistent waves. It’s popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers due to the strong winds. While it’s a fantastic spot for water sports, the wind and distance from central Cape Town might be drawbacks if you’re looking to explore more than just the surf scene.

Choosing the right area for you

When deciding where to stay in Cape Town, I recommend choosing an area that resonates with your personal interests and budget, and not just your surfing ambitions. Cape Town offers a diverse range of neighborhoods, each with its unique charm and attractions. Whether you’re looking for vibrant nightlife, cultural experiences, gourmet dining, or family-friendly environments, there’s something for everyone.

From my own experience, I fell in love with Green Point. It’s not too expensive, has numerous excellent brunch spots, and is conveniently close to the city. Additionally, I found it much less windy than many other areas located near the ocean, making it a more comfortable place to stay. Green Point offers a lively atmosphere and is close to popular attractions like the V&A Waterfront and Sea Point Promenade.

In conclusion, while Muizenberg and Bloubergstrand are excellent spots for beginner surfers, there are other areas that offer a more well-rounded experience with easier access to the city’s amenities, attractions, and a more comfortable stay. Choose the area that best suits your overall plans and enjoy your time surfing and exploring beautiful Cape Town!
